Organizing My Bathroom with Dollar General

When I moved into my new apartment earlier this year, I made a commitment to myself to live like a real adult and keep my space organized. Organizing can be stressful because it takes a lot of mental and physical work. Not only do you have to find the right storage containers for your exact needs, you have to do the work of making a plan and executing it by actually sitting and organizing all of your things. It can honestly be overwhelming now matter how much clutter you have. There’s a reason professional organizers have a booming business and successful TV shows on all the major networks.

I, however, love DIY projects! I can live in a bit of a mess, but only for 48hours. After that time, i’m ready to clean.

My goal with my bathroom organization was to spruce up the space with quality and affordable pieces. I wanted my bathroom to look as clean and aesthetically pleasing as storage projects from higher end stores like the Container Store. My budget was $100. Challenge Accepted!

Before I decided to get my life together, my bathroom storage was a mess. I didn’t realize how much clutter I had until I was forced to look at it everyday while working from home; thanks covid-19!

  Step 1: Make a Plan

I’ll admit my first trip to Dollar General was a fail. I hadn’t mapped a plan out, so I was shopping blind. A big no-no for a shopaholic! I went over budget and purchased bins that didn’t  even fit my space. After that mistake, I returned my items and decided to sit and make a strategic plan.

Step 2: Take Everything Out

You heard me, take every thing out of those closets and cabinets; all of it! You’ll never know what you need if you don’t know what you already have. This process will take some patience, but it’ll be so worth it!

Once you have everything in front of you, purge! Decide which items are best to keep, donate, toss, or simply put elsewhere in your home.

Step 3: Group into Categories

Once you have all the items you want to organize laid out, group them into categories. It’s easier to organize your space once you have an inventory list and categories to match! My categories:

Under Sink:

·      Bath/Body products

·      Home Fragrance

·      Natural Hair products

·      Protective Style Products

Linen Closet:

·      Bed Sheets

·      Small Blankets

·      Bath Towels

·      Face Towels

·      Feminine Products

·      Medicines/Vitamins

·      Toilet Paper

·      Paper Towels

·      Mop & Cleaning Supplies

Once I chose my categories, it made choosing the right Dollar General Storage Bins easy!

 Step 4: Organizing

For under the sink organization, I used four Canvas Storage Bins from True Living Essentials. This product is only available in store, but I found tons of options at many of my local Dollar General locations.

These  medium sized fabric bins are great quality for only $10! The bins fit under my sink and store all of my items perfectly.

For linen closet organization, I used the Two Toned Large Canva Storage Bins also from True Living Essentials. These large bins are amazing! They are sturdy and are only $12 in-store! I love the cloth handles because they give the bins such a high quality feel.

I also used the Striped Oversized Bin from Dollar General to store bulkier items like my mid-lightweight blankets. I even used one of the bins to transform my toilet paper storage.

I used two small wire/cloth baskets to store my small hand towels and my contacts + extra glasses.

Once the project was done, I couldn't believe how calm the bathroom felt. Good organization truly does breed good energy.

I use to avert my eyes whenever I walked past my messy closets and cabinets, but thanks to Dollar General, my space is organized, refreshed and I feel accomplished! I did however, go over my budget just a tad. All 14 bins together cost around $120! That’s almost $8.50 per item. I call this splurge one heck of a steal!
